Workforce readiness attraction and retention

Oxford County Council will consider a request to partner in a campaign to address the workforce crisis in Oxford with a financial contribution of $10,000. In January 2020, estimates pegged Oxford County’s workforce shortage at more than 3,000 workers. A partnership of private and public-sector employers will spearhead the campaign to attract and retain young workers through an innovative marketing campaign, including virtual employer tours and video profiles, highlighted on the WorkInOxford website. The campaign will showcase two of Oxford County’s core services – Long-Term Care and Wastewater Treatment – as part of the recruitment efforts.

Community Safety Zone Criteria and Warrant Process – Revised

County Council will consider revised technical criteria to identify community safety zones across the County’s road network at the September 8 council meeting. Community safety zones are proposed as a traffic-calming measure on County roads and allow municipalities to issue increased fines within these areas to deter speeding. Under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, municipalities have the authority to designate parts of a roadway as community safety zones where public safety is of particular concern, such as near schools, community and recreation centres, senior residences and high pedestrian traffic areas. The subject was deferred at the June 23, 2021, Council meeting to allow additional time for review by specific area municipalities.

Oxford Response to COVID-19 survey

University of Guelph is working with Oxford County and more than 20 local partners to study how the pandemic has changed life for residents, including their health, wellbeing, social life, finances, and day-to-day living. The 20-minute survey, Oxford Response to COVID-19, will be online from early September until October 29 at www.oxfordcounty.ca/speakup. Paper copies with prepaid return postage will also be mailed to all Oxford County households beginning this week. Oxford’s municipal and community partners receive study results and data for use in program planning and COVID-19 recovery initiatives, particularly those that relate to housing, mental health and addictions support, and income and food security.
