Oxford County is gearing up for the second phase in the development of a county-wide Cycling Master Plan. The plan will build on work that is already taking place to promote commuting by bicycle, connect roadway cycling routes to off-road trail networks, and enhance tourism opportunities.

Based on phase one consultations, the recommendations are for a tiered approach to the cycling network. A tiered approach would feature a Primary Cycling Network that connects many of Oxford County’s key destinations and a secondary network that will serve the growing number of recreational and touring cyclists in the area.

As the County cycles forward into phase two of plan development, the County is looking for additional input on ways to improve cycling for people of all ages and abilities in the County. Areas, where the County is seeking additional input, include:

• What elements of the Primary Cycling networks should be a priority upon implementation?
• What types of cycling amenities are wanted and useful? And, where should these amenities be located?
• What types of signage and wayfinding should be used to help to support use of the cycling network?

Due to COVID-19, engagement opportunities will be of a virtual nature and will include a virtual public open house, survey and mapping tool. The virtual open house, which will include a presentation followed by a Q&A session, will be held on Thursday, February 25 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Access to the open house will be through www.oxfordcounty.ca/livestream. The final Cycling Master Plan will put forward a set of recommendations to better connect significant areas in and outside of Oxford County through trails and cycling routes; establish commuting infrastructure that allows cycling to be used in tandem with public transit, carpools and passenger rail service; and promote a stronger culture of cycling in Oxford. The development of a Cycling Master Plan is recommended in the 2019 Transportation Master Plan and identified in the Oxford County Official Plan.
