Zorra Now | Spring 2023 43 TOWNSHIP COMMUNITY INFORMATION AGRICULTURALSOCIETY Spring Plant Sale On Saturday, May 20, 2023 (9am-12pm), join us at the Embro Zorra Community Centre for our Spring Plant Sale. All proceeds from the event will go toward the building of our community pavilion, which is set to begin construction in the fall. Any plant donations are appreciated and can be brought to the community centre on Friday evening. Cash only for purchases. Coffee, tea, and baked goods will be available for purchase. Mental Health Campaign Mental health in agriculture is more important than ever. In order to bring more awareness around this crucial topic, EZAS has decided to create a public chalkboard for community members to share a positive thought, an encouraging word, or an inspirational reminder all year long. We would like to thank Core Fuels for offering up a space to hang these chalkboards along the fence, where ‘Embro & Zorra Plant Seeds of Kindness” , aligning with the Let’s Grow Embro 2023 Fair Theme! Mental health resources are available on the website, and watch for more mental health initiatives throughout the year as well. Pumpkin Competition The EZAS Pumpkin Competition continues again in 2023! Grow the biggest pumpkin and become the Pumpkin Prince & Princess! Every student living in Zorra Township as of June 1, 2023 is eligible to enter. Five seeds will be mailed to each student who requests seeds through the online form on the EZAS website. The last date to order seeds is May 1, 2023 at 12:00 noon. Students must plant and care for their pumpkin. Students attending Zorra Highland Park Public School and A.J. Baker Public School must bring their grown pumpkins to their schools by 9am on September 13, 2023. All other entries can be delivered to the Embro & Zorra Community Centre by 12:00 noon on September 13, 2023 or call Anne Innes at 519-475-6135. All pumpkins will be judged by weight to determine the Prince and Princess, 2nd and 3rd place boy and girls, and lucky pumpkin winners. All winners, including lucky pumpkin winners, will get the opportunity to ride on the pumpkin parade float and be recognized on the main stage at the Fair.
