Property tax is calculated annually based on your property's assessed value, the type of property you own (property class) and the council-approved property tax rate. The assessed value of your property is determined by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC), an independent body formed by the provincial government and funded by municipalities. Your 2023 tax assessment is based on MPAC's phased-in 2016 values. MPAC was to implement a province-wide assessment update in 2020, but it has been postponed due to COVID-19. Assessment notices were issued in November 2016 advising property owners of their property's assessed market value. If you don't have yours, contact MPAC.
