18 Zorra Now | Fall 2023 TOWNSHIP DEPARTMENT INFORMATION The Zorra Multi-Use Committee (ZMCC) has been continuing their work towards bringing multi-use courts to Thamesford! The courts will be used to play basketball, ball hockey, pickleball, and tennis, and will also serve as a new community hub for all Township of Zorra residents to enjoy. Committee members Andrew Goodwin, Brenda Carnahan, Kate Lockhart. Julie Riley, Rebecca Ruddy, Libby Wilkinson, and Deputy Mayor Katie Grigg are proud to share that they just recently surpassed the halfway mark in their fundraising efforts! Through a series of fundraising events, community member donations, a generous donation from the Thamesford Lions Club of $50,000, and a commitment from the Township, once the remaining funds have been raised, of almost $80,000, the committee is well on their way to meeting their goal and getting the courts underway! While the Committee continues to focus their efforts on raising the remaining funds they need to complete the project, they just recently began the site selection process. The two potential areas under review are the South Lions Park and the field space behind the Thamesford District Recreation Centre. Their preferred location will be determined in the next couple of months. If you are interested in doing your part to help bring these courts to Zorra, think about trying one of the following: Participate Participating in the committee’s fundraisers is an excellent opportunity to show your support for the project. Take part in ZMCC initiatives such as the upcoming Family Pickleball Day and other fundraising events.
