36 Zorra Now | Fall 2023 TOWNSHIP COMMUNITY INFORMATION Upcoming Events Community Car Shows Thank you to all who came to our Community Car Shows this season. The last one will take place on museum grounds Sunday, September 17th from 12-4pm. The Beachville Legion will be preparing lunch on the BBQ and Heavenly Sweets’ ice cream truck will be on-site for those with more of a sweet tooth. Come on by to take it all in, grab a snack, and participate in the 50/50 raffle. Speaker Series The Beachville District Historical Society’s Speaker Series will resume on Tuesday, September 12 with a talk by Arthur McClelland on Oxford County’s postal history. The event will take place in the Program Room at 7pm and conclude with light refreshments provided by the Historical Society. No registration is required and the event is free to attend. Other upcoming Speaker series dates are: Tuesday, October 10 at 7pm - Historic Superstitions presented by Scott Gillies Tuesday, November 14 at 7pm - Henry Bostwick: Commander of the First Oxford Militia in the War of 1812 presented by Bob Renny Digitization Day - Presented by the Zorra Heritage Committee &Oxford CountyArchives Do you have historic documents, photos, or objects related to Zorra Township/Oxford County, local, or family histories? Join the Zorra Heritage Committee, in partnership with the Oxford County Archives, at the Beachville District Museum on Saturday, October 21st from 10am-2pm for their first Digitization Day. Community members are invited to bring up to 3 items to be digitized and returned to them along with copies of the digital files. Copies of the files will also be retained by the Oxford County Archives and Beachville District Museum as reference material. Digitization of local, historical materials will help to ensure that important pieces of our local heritage are preserved for future research and the enjoyment of the next generations. Light Up the Museum The annual Light Up the Museum event will take place on December 1 this year. This event is free to attend and all are welcome. Join us at the museum for a night of holiday festivities and snacks as we light up the lights on the grounds. Thank you for your continued support! As the summer season winds down and we head into fall, we invite you to join us for a tour of the museum during regular hours Tuesday-Saturday 10am-4pm. We look forward to seeing you soon! museum’s ongoing ICIP (Investing in Canadian Infrastructure Program) grant-funded project. Concrete was provided by Stubbe’s and the work completed by Crestwood Concrete Inc. Installation of 2 new accessible entries was made possible through support from the Township of Southwest Oxford. Thank you to our partners for making these projects possible! The Beachville District Historical Society’s Annual Beef BBQ took place on August 11th and had a wonderful turnout. Thanks to all of our community members, volunteers, and staff for their continued support of this event. Special thanks to our food suppliers Lansdell Meats, Miss Ingersoll, Streef Produce Ltd. and the Mt. Elgin United Church for their contributions to the delicious meal. We’ll see you next year! The museum is pleased to congratulate Curator Stephanie Radu and family on the birth of their healthy baby boy this July! While she is on maternity leave, Sidney Hicks has stepped in as Curator and Monica Van Ittersum as Curatorial Assistant. Be sure to stop by the museum to greet them the next time you’re in Beachville. We’d like to thank summer staff members Josie and Sarah for their wonderful work with the Summer Camp Program and museum collection, respectively. Their positions were funded in part by the Young Canada Works and Canada Summer Jobs grant programs. Groundskeeper Jeff has returned for another season and continues to work with the property committee to keep the grounds looking their best. Thanks to all for your dedication!
