Unattended cooking is the leading cause of cooking fires and deaths. These numbers highlight the importance of this year’s Fire Prevention Week theme, “Cooking safety starts with YOU! Pay attention to fire prevention™”, which works to better educate the public on how to help prevent fires and burns while cooking. FIRE PREVENTION WEEK OCTOBER 8 - 14, 2023 Turn pot handles towards the back of the stove. Always keep a lid nearby when cooking. Watch what you heat. Set a timer to remind you that you are cooking. Have a “kid-free zone” of at least 3 feet (1 meter) around the stove, oven, and other things that can get hot.
