TOWNSHIP DEPARTMENT INFORMATION TOWNSHIP DEPARTMENT INFORMATION 14 Zorra Now | Fall 2025 Zorra Now | Fall 2025 15 It was a hot and sunny day on Tuesday August 12, 2025 as staff from all of Zorra’s departments gathered to prepare for a celebration. It has been 50 years since Zorra was created, due to the amalgamation of former townships of North Oxford, East Nissouri, Embro, and West Zorra. Staff setup tents, warmed up the grill, and got the popcorn machine fired up. There were cold drinks on ice and the water filling station was connected. Tables and chairs were setup and the front parking area was blocked to traffic. There was terrific entertainment by local musician Uncle G, and some of our firefighters from Zorra Fire Rescue’s Thamesford Station brought one of the fire trucks for all to see. People started showing up and they didn’t stop. So many familiar faces and a chance to visit and catch up. Ernie Hardeman presented a certificate of congratulations from his office, along with one from Premier Ford. A representative from Celebrates Arpan Khanna’s office was here to present a certificate as well, since Arpan was out of the province. In the end, almost 400 hot dogs were served and people didn’t want to leave. We wrapped up the event after two solid hours of cooking, eating, and visiting. We managed to clean up and get everything put away with an hour to spare before the skies opened up for some much needed rain! Staff and Council were so pleased with the event and thankful to all those who braved the heat to come and spend time with us. Thanks for celebrating 50 years of Zorra Township! We were thrilled to gather many current and former members of Council for a group photo.
