TOWNSHIP COMMUNITY INFORMATION TOWNSHIP COMMUNITY INFORMATION 30 Zorra Now | Spring 2025 Zorra Now | Spring 2025 31 30th Anniversary Season Here at Thistle Theatre, 2025 marks an amazing milestone. Its our 30th Anniversary season!! We are celebrating 30 amazing years of local community theatre, and more than 40 productions that have graced our stage at the historic Embro Town Hall. In late March, we kicked off the festivities with our production of “E-male?” by Joan Veldman. Joan Veldman, a long-time member of Thistle Theatre, passed away in June 2023. Joan was loved by so many of us that we want to celebrate her many achievements and share some stories, and what better way to do that, than to stage a play she had written. From 1997 till 2017, Joan worked on over 20 shows and took on leadership roles backstage and on our Board of Directors. In 1997, Joan was a young widow with 2 sons and new to our community. She came out to help with makeup on Thistle’s “Annie”, because she had heard the people at Thistle Theatre were a friendly bunch. In 1998, she tried her first acting role, and was soon playing lead parts. She directed for the first time in 2001 with “Ethan Claymore”, and in 2007 her production “Moonlight and Valentino” was selected to perform at WODL regional festival. Her final directing work with Thistle was the musical “My Fair Lady”. Joan also decided to be a playwright! WODL chose her script “E-Male?” as the Minifest show for 2002. Her friends at Thistle were very proud to have a playwright from our group. Our First Session has only 2 spots remaining . Our second session h available.
