TOWNSHIP DEPARTMENT INFORMATION TOWNSHIP DEPARTMENT INFORMATION 16 Zorra Now | Winter 2025 Zorra Now | Winter 2025 17 Every year on the third week of October, Local Government Week is celebrated. During this time, we celebrate the roles that Ontario local governments play in helping define the character, priorities, amenities, and physical make-up of each community. We acknowledge the achievements and responsibilities that our local government within the Township of Zorra provides in best supporting the residents in our communities. The Township of Zorra Staff and Council recognize that a government at the municipal level is the closest form of government to the residents living in a community. With that, we strive to create a safe and healthy community for all members in many different ways. This year on November 4th, 2025, The Township of Zorra hosted students from Thamesford Public School to participate in Local Government Week themed activities as well as a tour of the Township Office. Additionally, the Township’s Manager of Recreation and Facilities took this opportunity to present the students with two options for a new playground in South Park. The students provided thoughtful and passionate feedback to Staff, which has factored into real changes for the playground project coming in 2026. This was a fantastic example of meaningful collaboration and the public consultation process leading to tangible results benefiting both the Township and residents. On behalf of Council and Township Staff, we would like to thank all students and teachers involved in participating in our Local Government Week activities! October 19-25 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation On September 30th of each year for National Day of Reconciliation, we honor all children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools as well as their families and communities. We use this day to remember the cultural genocide Indigenous People faced in Canada and hope to spread awareness and promote reconciliation within the community. On this day, the Zorra staff participated in Orange Shirt Day as a symbol of support for reconciliation. Staff also participated in watching informative videos to better understand the impact and history of residential schools and Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. Every Child Matters.
