TOWNSHIP DEPARTMENT INFORMATION TOWNSHIP DEPARTMENT INFORMATION 22 Zorra Now | Winter 2025 Zorra Now | Winter 2025 23 STAY UPDATED! Visit www.zorra.ca/our-township/committees or contact Sofia Caldwell, Manager of Recreation and Facilities, at scaldwell@zorra.ca. Where Will the Courts Be Built? After reviewing several locations, the Committee originally proposed building the multi-use courts at the Thamesford District Recreation Centre. However, in Fall 2024, a new opportunity emerged: a parcel of parkland generously donated to the Township by Kingwood Development. NEW LOCATION: OFF BROCK STREET NEAR THE GEORGE STREET EXTENSION. This site will be part of a central, growing community hub—adjacent to a future elementary school, planned sports fields, and available parking—making it the ideal spot for recreation and community access. The ZMCC has officially endorsed this site as the preferred location. The Zorra Multi-Use Courts Committee, with the dedication of volunteers and community support since 2019, has officially reached its fundraising goal—special thanks to Chair Andrew Goodwin, Deputy Mayor Katie Grigg, and all committee members past and present. When Will Construction Begin? Earthworks have begun on the site of construction! Before the courts can be built, important infrastructure and grading work must be completed. See the picture below of the initial earthworks in action. The Request for Proposal will be issued in 2026, with construction to follow. ZORRA MULTI-USE COURTS COMMITTEE The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Auxiliary Program plays a vital role in supporting policing efforts across Ontario, and here in Oxford County, OPP auxiliary members are an essential part of the team. These dedicated volunteers work alongside Oxford OPP officers to enhance public safety and strengthen community connections. Their contributions range from attending parades and festivals to delivering crime prevention presentations, supporting traffic safety initiatives, and providing critical help during emergencies. Joining the Oxford OPP Auxiliary Program is more than volunteering—it’s an opportunity to make a real difference in your own community. Members receive specialized training, gain valuable experience in policing fundamentals, and work closely with OPP officers, making it an excellent stepping stone for those considering a career in law enforcement. Beyond professional development, the program offers the personal fulfillment of helping to serve and protect the people who live, work or transit in Oxford County. If you are passionate about community service and public safety, the detachment encourages you to join the Oxford OPP auxiliary unit today.
